OPS

Onshore Power Supply (OPS) allows a ship docked at berth to shut down its onboard generators and draw electric power directly from shore, drastically cutting emissions, noise and fuel usage.

Under EU policy (e.g. AFIR), ports must deploy OPS infrastructure by 2030 to meet demand from passenger, container and other vessels.

In practice, OPS systems require robust high-voltage or medium-voltage connections, protective switchgear, and safe interfaces adapted to ship and grid requirements.

By enabling ships to “plug in” rather than run engines in port, OPS plays a key role in decarbonizing maritime operations and improving urban air quality.
